Moving your SAP environment to the cloud entails switching from one server host to another; the various routes you can take depend on whether you want to change the database (DB), the operating system (OS), neither, or both.
SAP has two migration concepts with this in mind: homogeneous and heterogeneous.
SAP must support the combination of operating system and database in either type of migration.
Homogeneous Migration
Typically, a homogeneous system copy requires that both the database and the operating system remain the same in the source and target systems.
- A homogeneous system copy is similar to a rehost.
- This usually entails reinstalling your virtual machines and SAP application tier, followed by copying database data to the target system.
Heterogeneous Migration.
If the target system's operating system, database, or both differ from the source system, a heterogeneous system copy is required.
